By the beginning of the 20th century, Belfast had become one of the world’s greatest ports and centres of manufacturing. Much of that success was generated in East Belfast. Here you can visit the city’s most famous legacy, the Harland & Wolff shipyard where Titanic was built, including the slipways where she was launched, the offices where she was designed and the dry dock where her superstructure was added. A thriving centre of manufacturing and engineering, East Belfast hosted the largest Rope Works in the world, while in its Sirocco factory the world’s first air conditioning plants and many other innovations were built. Read on to explore our remarkable industrial legacy. |
